Update the app
VibeStarter downloads its updates on its own, but it never installs them without asking you. The installation happens when the app restarts, once you accept it.
- App startupOne check, at that moment.
- DownloadIn the background, without asking you anything.
- BannerTwo buttons: Restart or Later.
- InstallationWhen you restart. The app first waits for the environment to shut down cleanly.
What is automatic, and what is not
Section titled “What is automatic, and what is not”| Step | Who decides |
|---|---|
| Check that a version exists | The app, once, at startup |
| Download the update | The app, in the background |
| Install the update | You, with Restart |
When an update is ready, a banner offers Restart or Later.
Later loses nothing: the update stays downloaded.
Before installing, the app waits for the virtual machine to shut down cleanly, for up to 90 seconds. This keeps its disk from getting corrupted.
Check or install by hand
Section titled “Check or install by hand”-
Open Settings → Application → Updates.
-
Click Check for updates.
-
If a version is available, download it, then restart the app to install it.
The same section has the Auto-update switch, on by default. Turning it off removes the check at startup: you will have to come here every time.
Two special cases
Section titled “Two special cases”Updating without being signed in. Checking for and installing an update works even without an open session: the app shows “Updates without sign-in.”
A required update. A version that is too old may no longer be accepted by the service. See the next section.
When an update is required
Section titled “When an update is required”For security reasons, the service can refuse versions below a certain number. When 3.6.0 came out, all earlier versions were refused: you have to move to 3.6.0 to keep using VibeStarter.
From 3.6.0 on, the app shows an “Update required” screen that replaces everything else:
This version of VibeStarter is no longer accepted. The new version installs automatically, then the app restarts.
The screen shows your version and the minimum version, then goes through “Looking for the update…”, the download, and the installation, even if Auto-update is turned off. Your projects stay intact; the VM and the agents are stopped until the update is done. If the installation fails, or if your installation can’t update itself, click
Retry or Download from vibestarter.pro.
With a version earlier than 3.6.0, the app takes you back to the sign-in screen, and the link request shows “Update VibeStarter to sign in to your account.”
-
On the sign-in screen, in the box “Updates without sign-in,” click
Check, then install the version offered.
-
If no update is offered — very old versions, test versions, or installations without automatic updates — download the latest version from vibestarter.pro/download and install it over the old one. Your projects are not touched.
-
The first time you launch the new version, sign in again once through the email link: your previous session is no longer valid. The app may show “Sign in again to secure your session: it dates from an older version of VibeStarter.”
The steps to sign in again are in Create your account and connect your computer.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- The check happens only once per startup. Leaving the app open for several days does not make a new version appear.
- The download is automatic. The installation never is, except for a required update (the “Update required” screen).
- An update interrupts the agents that are running, because it restarts the app and its environment.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Where can I see the installed version? In Settings → Application → Updates.
The update download fails. Try again: the failure is usually temporary. If the error persists, see Get help.
On Mac, the app shows “Update failed: Read-only file system (os error 30).”
The app was launched from a location that macOS does not allow it to modify: most often
the .dmg disk image itself, or the Downloads folder, without having been moved to
Applications. So it cannot replace itself. Quit the app, download the .dmg from
vibestarter.pro/download, open it, drag Vibe Starter to Applications and accept replacing the old one,
eject the disk image, then open the app from Applications. Your projects and your data
are not touched. Later updates will install on their own. See
Install on Mac.
Are updates paid? No, they are included — see What VibeStarter costs.
Can an update break my project? The code of your project belongs to you and lives on your disk. The instructions given to the agents, however, are updated along with the app.
Can I go back to the previous version? There is no way to roll back from the app. If a version causes you a problem, report it — see Find your logs and report a bug.
